Visitors flock to Savannah for her beauty, her character, and her charm. Southern Belle Vacation Rentals welcomes guests to our beloved city with open arms and gracious accommodations that make everyone feel like they belong. One important part of learning any city, absorbing its culture and fitting in, lies in sampling its food.

Papillote French Cafe

Savannah offers a diverse collection of eateries but when you’re busy taking in all the sights, having a sit-down meal isn’t always convenient. That doesn’t mean you have to settle for something unhealthy or plain. In fact, there’s a French café in downtown Savannah that serves gourmet cuisine to-go. French food as part of the experience of Savannah? Just wait, you’ll discover that the rich flavors from Papillote blend perfectly with the richness of our fair city.

Papillote French Cafe in Downtown Savannah features genuine French cuisine that’s bursting with flavor yet easily potable. It’s perfect for a picnic in one of Savannah’s beautiful parks and ideal after a day of touring when you want to enjoy something delicious while relaxing in your rental home.

The name Papillote, which is pronounced something like pappy-yacht or pappy-yote, refers to a parchment pouch used to cook or steam food. While the chef and co-owner of the café does prepare fresh fish in this manner every Friday, much of the food is a creative endeavor that’s unique to any given day. There are some regular menu items, but varied daily specials mean that patrons can always find something new alongside their favorites.

Papillote Offers Weekend Brunch

Papillote food is similar to bistro cooking, featuring lots of fresh vegetables incorporated with an almost artistic use of spices. Don’t worry, if you aren’t familiar with French cuisine, you’ll find lots of recognizable ingredients here. It isn’t all snails and rabbit although those may be available.

The regular menu features such mouthwatering entries as Chic Chicken with grilled chicken breast, polenta, roasted bell peppers and feta cheese on top of arugula. The Crab and Mango Tartine is an open-faced sandwich that piles crab, mango, and avocado onto toasted brioche and then adds a spicy, flavorful sauce. Croque Monsieur is a classic that makes toasted ham and Swiss cheese into something special with the addition of crème fraiche, and each soup du jour is handmade with fresh ingredients; many are vegetarian.

For sweets, try the delicious varieties of macarons, the buttery Gateau Breton cake, or the wonderfully traditional chocolate mousse and crème brulee. The Chocolate Lava Cake comes in individual portions that Papillote cooks for you or that you can prepare at home.

Papillote offers weekend brunch menus that maintain their usual quality and creativity and they also have a full catering menu. Enjoy the outstanding cuisine from this French café in downtown Savannah from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; the café is closed Monday and Tuesday. The owners of Papillote are passionate about food; once you taste what they’ve prepared, you will be too.
