Yo, ho, ho, mateys! Grab your eye patch and head to Tybee Island for a swashbuckling adventure during the annual Pirate Fest on Oct. 10-13. The 15th annual fest welcomes buccaneers of all ages to the family-friendly gathering.
Dress in your finest pirate attire or be ready to shop for some in the Thieves’ Market. The festivities commence on Thursday with the Buccaneer Ball at The Crab Shack, with plenty of grub and grog and a bounty of pirates. The Ball, which is only open to pirates 18 and older, features a costume contest.
On Friday, the grounds open at 5 p.m. when the Motley Tones kick off an evening of entertainment on one of two stages. The cannon firing and opening ceremony take place at 7 p.m., and the Kentucky Headhunters take the stage at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, the children’s and pet’s costume contest takes place at 1 p.m. on the Main Stage. The Pirate Victory Parade runs from the North Beach parking lot to Tybrisa Street from 3 to 5 p.m.
Headlining act at 8:45 Saturday night is Great White, with an arsenal of hits including the Grammy-nominated Best Hard Rock Performance, “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.” Great White sold more than 10 million albums worldwide, has six Top 100 Billboard hits, nine Top 200 Billboard albums, two platinum albums, and clocked the top of MTV four times. The night ends with a spectacular firework show.
Starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, youngsters can discover plenty of activity at Little Matey’s Cove, including bounce houses, a petting zoo and a pirate encampment.
