Not all Spring Break beach destinations are fraught with partying and college-kid shenanigans. Visitors are appreciating the benefits of smaller, eco-friendly vacation destinations and Tybee Island does not disappoint. It’s a family-friendly destination offering beautiful shorelines with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, water activities and plenty of places to kick back with a cold one if that’s your preference.

The first thing you need to know is that location is everything. Choose a comfortable condo or waterfront home within walking distance to Tybee’s beaches and entertainment. Our experienced representatives will help you find the perfect vacation rental, whatever size group.

Tybee Island Beaches

Next, get to know our beaches. They are, after all, the main attraction. Our island is home to three miles of beaches, with three public beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and two on the river. Each has its own personality. South Beach is the island’s “downtown” district, and also home to the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. North Beach features a more historic part of the island, as well as its shopping district. MidBeach is close to everything.

All the oceanfront beaches are great for surfing, beachcombing and just relaxing on the sand. Want to do some kayaking or standup paddleboarding? The river beaches are great for exploring our waterways, as well as watching the sunset.

Things to do on Tybee Island

As we said, there’s plenty to do on the island, including historic Fort PulaskiMcQueen’s Island Trail and the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. One highlight, the Tybee Island Lighthouse’s tower and observation deck is closed due to a renovation that should be completed by March 2020. However, the rest of the site remains open, including the head keeper’s cottage, 2nd assistant keeper’s cottage, summer kitchen and the Tybee Island Museum.

Speaking of attractions, one of the best ways to see the island is by bicycle. Rent one from Tim’s Bike & Beach Gear or Fat Tire Bikes Tybee.

Then, of course, there’s the food. Tybee Island’s restaurants offer succulent seafood, juicy burgers, finger-lickin’ good barbecue, hot wings, ice cream and more.

Start making your plans now for the perfect, family-friendly spring break on Tybee Island.
