Talk about city sidewalks dressed in holiday style! Savannah is a picture-perfect place to spend time during the Christmas season. It’s already such a beautiful, iconic destination. Add holiday lights, mistletoe and Christmas music and it’s downright Currier and Ives! Make yourself at home. We’ll help with a few suggestions.

First, stroll the streets, browse shop windows and pick up the perfect gift for everyone on your list. This is, after all, the quintessential place for it. With 22 park-like squares arranged in a grid, Savannah is walkable and definitely shoppable. Lots of stores, boutiques and galleries are located on and around River Street and City Market between Ellis and Franklin squares.

Second, book a stay in one of our beautiful homes, apartments and carriage houses located within easy walking distance from the shopping districts, including the Grey Pearl home on West Broad Street, and a cool and cozy cottage just steps away from River Street.

Third, take a tour of a historic home that’s sure to be all decked out. The Davenport House, for example, offers Tours by Candlelight from Dec. 26-28. Southern Belle Vacation Rentals has several properties within easy walking distance including our Bird Baldwin Garden home, New Broughton Street loft and the LaRoche House.

Fourth, become a regular at one of our many coffee shops, restaurants and bars. The Foundery Coffee Pub, The Coffee Fox and the Wright Square Cafe are a few that come to mind.  But you’ll no doubt stumble upon your own favorite stop for a hot coffee, cocoa or specialty holiday latte.

Fifth, take in a Christmas concert or show or participate in a traditional Christmas church service. The Savannah Philharmonic presents the Holiday Pops-Family Concert on Dec. 8 at the Johnny Mercer Theater; “A Christmas Tradition” is set at the Savannah Theatre throughout the month. Check out a list of churches to find a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day service or special holiday presentations.

So, come on. Make yourself at home in Savannah this holiday season and have yourself a merry little Christmas.
