If you think the beach is just for sunbathing or collecting shells, think again! Think watersports. Think Tybee Island, Georgia. There are numerous things to do in Tybee Island and may be the best place to learn to surf, windsurf and kitesurf. The waves are gentle, the wind consistent and beach access is easy.

Surfing

While the waves on the Georgia coast may not be the best for surfing, that hasn’t deterred the surfers who patiently wait for the waves to kick up a bit during hurricane season. Taking a surf lesson, with its gentle waves, is one of the best things to do in Tybee Island to experience the local surf scene.

Kitesurfing & Windsurfing

Think surfing is too tame? Try an extreme water sport – windsurfing or kitesurfing. Kitesurfing (or kiteboarding) involves using both a surfboard and a kite. The kite, attached to your body with a harness, pulls you along – in, along and out of the water.

Windsurfing (or sailboarding) also involves the use of a surfboard, but these boards have an attached sail. Using the wind, the windsurfer sails across the water by holding on to and adjusting the sail.
