The weather outside is seldom frightful on Tybee Island. That is one thing that makes winter delightful. Mild temps and low humidity bring out the best of Georgia’s coast. There is, after all, a reason folks (and birds) fly south for the winter.

And we have plenty of activities to keep you busy. Start by visiting the Tybee Island Holiday Market on Nov. 25 on Tybrisa Street. Shop with local merchants and enjoy live music while the kids take train rides and watch the Christmas Tree Lighting.

The Christmas Parade of Lights rolls from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 1, starting at 6th Street and moving down Butler Avenue to Tybrisa Street.

Find a spot to perch on the Tybee Pier at the sound end of the island. The pier and pavilion are perfect for people watching.

The pier is also great for another great fantastic activity - fishing. Bait your hook and drop a line to reel in redfish, sheepshead, and sea trout.

Take a kayak trip on a sunny day for a pleasant way to see a different side of Tybee. Rent a kayak or paddle board from North Island Surf and Kayak, or book an eco-history tour through the company. Sea Kayak Georgia is another outfitter that can get you on the water.

The best way to get around the island is by bicycle, and winter is the perfect time to explore on two wheels. Rent from Tybee Island Bike RentalsTims Beach GearFat Tire Bikes or Zoom Bike Rental. Most rentals will deliver to your vacation property.

Plunge into the Atlantic Ocean to start the New Year. The Tybee Polar Plunge happens at noon on Jan. 1 at the Tybee Island Pier & Pavilion. Registration includes a souvenir long-sleeve T-shirt, along with bragging rights.

There are endless ways to enjoy the great outdoors during a winter Tybee Island stay. Our favorite? Take advantage of your rental's deck, porch, or balcony. Sit, sip and take in the view.
